January Chapter Meeting recap
This month's Design DEYS-themed meeting was held at the Steelcase Showroom near Columbus Circle where we had some of our largest attendance to date!
After hearing general information about our chapter's background and mission, attendees were introduced to the Design DEYS program by our Director of Outreach, Rachel Starobinsky, and project coordinator Ambika Roos. This was followed by a lecture on lesson planning tips, presented by project coordinator Betty Starobinsky.
The meeting concluded with a DEYS brainstorming session where four small groups broke off to create lesson activities and ideas based on an age group and focus topic that were paired for them at random, such as:
• Landscape for grades 3-5
• Interior design for grades K-2
• Structures for grades 9-12
Design DEYS is our educational outreach program, and we welcome everyone who's interested to get involved. For more information, please contact DesignDEYS@afhny.org.

Silent Lights - A public art project in Red Hook
Several members of our ArtFarm team have embarked on an awesome new project and they're looking for support. Here's a brief description:
Silent Lights is an architectural series of gates that frames a pedestrian pathway by day showing constant movement through shadows. It transforms sound into patterns of light at night as it mimics movement with led lights, reflecting and interpreting movement and sound. There are no blind spots, the path is always lit and each gate responds to create a dynamic installation. Cars drive by, microphones pick up the sound from traffic, a computer processes the sound and triggers each gate to light up sequentially. As noise increases, the light from each gate intensifies.
