Architecture for Humanity New York's project at Wallabout Brooklyn, Across the BQE, has been invited to conduct a community workshop to review design proposals for a "safety plan" on Park Avenue (between Navy St. & Classon Ave.). We will make a PowerPoint presentation to introduce the street design proposals, then workwith participants in small breakout groups to review and critique the plans as well as discuss existing conditions. Topics will primarily be safety, traffic, and environment, but may also include social needs and concerns.
We need volunteers to help take notes and help facilitate the breakout tables. There is also a large Spanish speaking population at the site, so anyone who speaks Spanish would be very helpful. People with community charrette experience, urban planners, or those who are passionate about
neighborhood improvement and community outreach are welcome. Familiarity with the neighborhood would also be helpful.
This outreach is a continuation of the project's community outreach conducted in collaboration with MARP (Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project, a BID/Business Improvement District on Myrtle Avenue). This workshop will be an important milestone for the BQE project. It is an opportunity to present our design ideas to the community at large, and gain their comments and insights, before giving a final report. The final report will go to the client, as well as to the Community Board, DOT, and
