The Akasha team is expanding! If you are interested design-build, pop-up structures, industrial design, or you simply want to bring your design skills to a great project, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for information.
If you are interested in taking on an advanced commitment as Akasha Project Coordinator, please send an email with the subject "Project Coordinator Application" explaining your interest and include a resume. Responsibilities include design process management, client communications, materials sourcing and fabricator contacts. Should the candidate choose to, opportunities will exist for actual design work in addition to project management. The candidate will work in conjunction with the other Project Coordinators and the volunteer team towards developing a viable design solution, with the potential of continuing into the construction of the proposed design.
Akasha Yoga is a non-for-profit group that brings yoga to communities which otherwise wouldn’t have access to its benefits. On March 6th, Architecture for Humanity NY held a Chapter meeting in conjunction with Fabberz Lab to focus on the Akasha Project. Project Coordinator Cristina Greavu introduced the meeting’s attendees to the unique mission of Akasha and the three spatial typologies within which Akasha teaches yoga. The design challenge of the Akasha project is to create a calming environment - a space within a space - in the potentially distracting confines of gyms, offices, and classrooms. The ideal design will be portable, easily constructed, and lightweight. Each small group brainstormed how to create a sense of serenity and enclosure using a specific material within one of the three spatial typologies.
